How about a glass board. Some of the squares are frosted and some clear instead of black and white.
Also if one is not so worried about ultra lite you can most likely use a can of Sterno fuel the same way Jason demonstrated using the alcohol stove inside of the upper part of the stove. I am curious though. The fuel port on mine seems smaller on my stove than yours, Jason. Mines about 4 1/4 in height and 4 1/2 inches wide. It just looks smaller than yours.
I would say that a nice piece of plywood would work nice. find some with a nice smooth surface like birch plywood.
